Casa Capitão, a new cultural space that brings together different contemporary artistic expressions, opens in September
Presented as a new cultural space in Lisbon transversal and multidisciplinary program that crosses different contemporary artistic expressions, Casa Capitão reopens in September in the Beato Innovation District and begins a new phase: a space for continuous cultural programming , dedicated to creation, experimentation and sharing . The inauguration is scheduled for September 19th , with a free weekend offering more than 40 activities for all ages.
After the pop-up project launched during the pandemic and a complete building renovation process, Casa Capitão is now establishing itself as a long-term project cultural programming, catering and leisure intersect , and environments — concert halls, galleries, patio, restaurant, terrace and multipurpose areas — designed to accommodate artistic proposals of various scales and formats.
Casa Capitão presents a continuous and multidisciplinary that integrates music, spoken word and discourse, thought and debate, visual and performing arts, training and creation, audiovisual and new media, gastronomy, design, and fashion . It is a space of freedom, critical thinking, and inclusion, welcoming diverse artists, creators, and audiences, valuing artistic freedom, attentive listening, and collaborative work .
Casa Capitão also integrates programming projects with their own identity . Quiosque uses words and critical thinking as starting points for intersections with other artistic languages. Baile focuses on music and dance as popular and urban cultural practices, to create collective experiences on the dance floor. Mesa proposes a creative and interdisciplinary approach to food, exploring gastronomy as a cultural practice and a space for sharing.
OPENING PARTY
“ It was a long wait, after the pandemic summers when we held cultural events in the streets . Now, with our own home, we're back to stay . The new Capitão has four floors and several areas dedicated to cultural programming, restaurants, and leisure, with spaces that can accommodate between 30 and 500 people. And the same terrace as always, ” says Gonçalo Riscado, director of Casa Capitão.
The project is scheduled to kick off on September 19th, 20th, and 21st , with a free daytime and nighttime cultural program. Throughout the weekend there will be concerts by, among others, Afonso Cabral , Bbb Hairdryer , Capicua , Conferência Inferno , Hause Plants , Luca Argel , Iguanas , Maria Beraldo , Sreya , and Vaiapraia . On the dance floor, confirmed appearances include Caliente Isa & King Kami and Cuca Monga DJs with Doce da Casa & Chicharro.
The Bedside Table is a cycle of cultural programming inspired by the "bedside books" of a guest curator. Joana Guerra Tadeu inaugurates the program at the opening party. Also in the segment of word and discourse, Gil Dionísio presents Tales and Rhymes , a show of melodies and songs created from the many worlds of Dionysus; Anna Zêpa and Maria Giulia Pinheiro bring to Casa Capitão the performance Ciranda: Spoken Word Game, inspired by Poetry Slam ; Cláudia Fonseca leads a storytelling session for children and families; and Nómada Notebooks leads a workshop on handmade bookbinding, exploring the notebook as an archive of knowledge, memories, images, and practices of resistance and reconnection.
In the performing arts , a highlight is Matxikadu , by Lukano Mpasi , a performance that blends dance and music, combining electronic, hip hop, kuduro, and traditional Angolan music.
In the visual arts , Catarina Vilaça presents the video installation The Dream Has the Color of a Triangle , and the artist MARIA PINHEIRO aka CARLOS ROXO brings to the opening party the puzzle-installation Build Me, an invitation to experimentation and interaction without instructions.
audiovisual segment , Levante Cineclube offers a selection of short films for all ages, and the Le Guess Who? presents COSMOS , through a selection of films that document the stories of musical communities from around the world.
Aimed at audiences of all ages , there will also be creative and craft workshops , ranging from drawing to natural dyeing , from dance to storytelling .
