In its tenth edition, the MIL Festival continues to bring together artists of diverse genres and backgrounds. To shape the present — and the future.
The tenth edition of the MIL Festival, taking place between October 7th and 10th at Casa Capitão (Lisbon), continues to take shape. And it brings together, once again, artists who are shaping the present (and future) of popular music – from the Portuguese R&B singer pikika, with over six million streams on digital platforms, to the French egg-punks Flippeur.
Pikika isn't the only Portuguese artist joining the lineup on the 10th. Also confirmed is I'A'V, the enchanting trio of Inês Malheiro, Arianna Casellas, and Violeta Azevedo, who debuted this year with the magnificent "Volatile Poem" and are the contribution of the Minho-based Square festival to the final day's program. Meanwhile, the French duo Flippeur will share the evening of October 8th with their compatriot Hey Bony, a pioneer in cargo tech.
Also on the 8th, a large Spanish delegation lands in Beato, with the support of the Sounds From Spain program. Highlights include Las Petunias, legitimate heirs to the riot grrrls of the 90s and the beloved Vivian Girls, incapable of writing a song that isn't catchy and effusive like the best pop, only half punk, half indie. But also HOFE, singer and songwriter of music made of electronic fragments, trap and pop-punk; Queralt Lahoz, a singer of a very pop flamenco; and Paco Pecado, leading traditional Spanish and Latin American music towards the future
Joining this quartet, via Mercat Musica Viva de Vic, on the 10th, are their compatriots Damoridemort, evangelizers of the new Catalan cançó, with an album about to be released, from which four captivating singles are already known – “Beija Flor”, “Cielo Rojo”, “De Regalo” and “Como Me Río”.
Among the confirmed acts are another pair of Brazilian stars: Lambada de Serpente, who bring their Northeastern vibe to Beato on October 9th; and, the following day, obelga, rapper, producer and founder of Sertão da Farinha Podre. Finally, we've saved the futuristic alt-r&b of Londoners H.LLS for last; the musical world tour promoted by Norwegians Candura; and Grupo Pilon, a true reference point for funaná and the Cape Verdean diaspora.
These names join the 11 forwards at the beginning of the month: Expresso Transatlântico, Lau Ro, Manga Cava, OkA (8); Afreekassia, Afrokillerz, Andre Droga, Indus, MC Luanna (9); Nega do Babado and Rayssa Dias (10).
